A MIC IN GOOD STANDING

Or so I wish.  I'm all ready to set up my recording, uh, setup, but I 
have nothing to actually hold my microphone.  I don't want to use a 
floor stand, since space is at a premium here, and I need to be able to 
sit and read the monitor.  This means I either have to buy a desktop 
stand, or monkey one up.  "Buy" is a dirty word to me, so I'll need to 
make something serviceable -- something capable of supporting the rather 
great weight of the microphone itself, as well as the pop filter I 
constructed last week.  Also, it has to sit on my desk, in front of me.  
I use an antique wooden school desk that I've owned for decades.  It has 
a slanted top, and limited desktop real estate.  This will be a bit of a 
challenge, I must admit.

The only craft thing I'm any good with is paper mache -- but luckily, 
that's a craft with many avenues of expression.  I'm going to design and 
begin to build a serviceable stand made from paper.  The weight of the 
mic itself, as well as the cable, ought to add stability to any such 
construction, but I can include even more weight for that purpose if 
need be.  Ideally, it should also be at least partially adjustable, so I 
can raise or lower it to an extent, and maybe change its angle.

Yes, I think I'll design it out and start building right away.  Paper is 
an awesome construction material, but it has its limits.  I guess I'll 
see if this is one of them.
