SCARY STORIES, EDDIE K, AND LA COSA NOSTRA

So, over the past week or so, I've been cast in some other people's 
Audio Dramas. Julie Hoverson, the content dynamo from "19 Nocturne 
Boulevard" (http://www.19nocturneboulevard.net) asked me to do a couple 
of parts for upcoming shows -- one, a straight-up monster story, and 
another, a comedy/horror set on a mad scientist's secret island. I gotta 
say that this is not my usual fair: I'm not a big fan of horror. I don't 
often read, listen to, or watch horror tales, though I confess to 
studying Lovecraft and Victorian horror at different points in my past. 
Neither of the shows I worked on over the weekend are in those veins, 
though Julie has done many that are. And not everything she does is 
horror-themed anyway. In fact, you could spend a very long time pouring 
through her site, and no matter what your tastes, you'd be likely to 
find something really cool. I was quite flattered and happy to be asked 
to work on some of her upcoming shows. She's really a pillar of the 
current AD scene. Julie works many months in advance, so the shows I'm 
in may not be released until next winter some time, or even later, but 
they're in the can now, so that's something to look forward to.

The next show I've worked on in the past week is a new AD, called, "This 
Thing Of Ours". Set in the late seventies, it's an ongoing drama series 
about a fictional Mafia family, caught in the middle of a power 
struggle. I've been cast as Joey 8-Ball, a hardcore Mob soldier, and I'm 
really excited and happy to be a part of this show. I can't speak for 
the final product yet, of course, as the first episode hasn't been 
released yet, nor do I even know any of the other actors, but I CAN tell 
you that the scripts I've seen are simply tops. Each episode looks short 
-- maybe ten or twenty minutes long at the most -- and it's really gonna 
be the good stuff, I'm tellin' ya. When it finally comes out, I'll put 
feed and Website details here, for all my millions of loyal gopher fans 
and readers to benefit by.

You know, I auditioned for a couple of smaller roles in TTOO, but was 
cast in something a little more prominent on the basis of my work in 
"Driving With Eddie". I'm consciously NOT doing Eddie for TTOO, but I 
guess the same NYC take-no-shit attitude was required for the role, so, 
really, I have Eddie to thank for this. I haven't done any acting to 
speak of for many years now, outside of my own audio stuff in the last 
few months. It has held little appeal, even in hindsight, but THIS 
project is one I'm really psyched about. Being a Mob show, Joey could 
get whacked at any point, I guess, but so long as I CAN be involved, I 
will be.

Speaking of "Eddie", I finished up a script for my next Eddie K story -- 
really, just more of the same as "Driving" was -- this one called, 
"Backstage With Eddie". It's just Eddie and Sal bitching at each other. 
They make me laugh, those two. I started working on a longer Eddie K 
piece yesterday, though, which, if I do it right, will be a 
comedy/mystery, of the Thin Man type (only much cruder, of course). I'm 
going for an hour's runtime on it, and I hope to have a real script by 
summertime. It will be a full cast thing, not just me, so I'm hoping for 
a fun final product. Obviously, I'll be phlogging about it here as I go.

I put "Blue Heaven" into the running for the Parsec Awards this year, 
which is a ceremony thing for science-fiction audio stories of various 
types. I got a cryptic email from them today, but i looks like it's been 
accepted as a nominee (there's a very specific protocol you have to 
follow in order to submit your content). We'll see how it goes. No 
biggie, either way on that, but it's good to see "Blue Heaven" get even 
a few centimeters of traction.

In other news, I'm dying by inches via insomnia. I've always had to 
deal with it to some degree or other, but it's been truly awful lately. 
I lay down exhausted, but the moment my head hits the pillow, my mind 
starts racing. Anywhere from midnight to three A.M. is my usual bedtime, 
which really hurts when you have to get up at five. It sucks, man, it 
just sucks...
